ARE YOU READY
FOR SELECT SOCCER?
What is CLCF Select Soccer?
Compared to Fall
Developmental Soccer, Select Soccer is a much more significant commitment to the
game. During the session(s) of indoor soccer most teams will train indoors
once per week and play one (sometimes two) match each week. During spring
outdoor soccer, training will be one to two sessions each with a match on the
weekend. Before deciding to try-out for select soccer, a player and his or her
parents must be willing to make a commitment to attend training session and
matches.
Players for Select teams are
chosen by a tryout process and they play an indoor and outdoor schedule against
select teams from other communities. Not all candidates who try-out will be
selected.
What is the Duration of the
Select Soccer Season?
During the late
fall and winter, the majority of Select Teams play indoor soccer. Indoor soccer
begins for some teams around the middle of December or the middle or end of Jan.
Spring Select outdoor soccer starts in early April and ends in late June.
How much travel is involved?
During the indoor
season, players are asked to travel to the indoor site to play their matches. In
spring, a team usually plays four home matches and four away matches. All spring
league matches are in-state. Tournaments involve additional travel. Many teams
may choose to play in a tournament in perhaps NH, MA or CT for example.
What is the cost?
The total cost for
indoor and spring will depend on the amount of indoor sessions and the number of
tournaments a team enters. Also, there are expenses associated with indoor
practice facilities and league referee fees. In addition, new players will also
have uniform fees. Total cost for the two seasons can range from $275 to $750
Select Tryouts—How, when, and
where?
You must register
to tryout. The registration form in on the select page of the CLCF Soccer

considered for a Select team. The schedule is on the back of this document.
Where are indoor matches held?
CLCF’s indoor teams
play at various RI sites as well as at locations in nearby Mass.
Could playing on a select team
interfere with other sport’s seasons?
Yes, some sports
such as Hockey and Basketball overlap indoor soccer and Baseball overlap during
the spring season.
If selected, can a player play
only the indoor or the outdoor season?
Yes, players will
be asked to make a choice at the time of tryout. That choice will be confirmed
at the time of selection. Obviously, a player will enhance his/her chances of
selection if they can commit to playing both indoor and outdoor with their team.
